About me

I'm sort of retired now. As of August 2014, in fact, when I was unexpectedly made redundant from my employment of 27 years.

That employment was on a nursery of an increasingly rare variety, the grower/retailer. We didn't grow all the plants we sold by a long way, and the proportion was slowly declining, but it was enough that you had direct contact between the grower and the plant buying customer. I believe that is essential if the customer is to get the best support and advice regarding their plant purchases.

I worked long hours, 5 or 6 days at the nursery, many hours at home posting stuff to the nursery website, ordering liners to grow on and much else.

Life is very different now. I have time to do my own garden properly and I have taken on a second allotment. I have a number of gardening jobs, mostly mowing grass for customers unable to do it for themselves. I have time to visit gardens and plant fairs.

Doing all these things having spent my working life as a professional horticulturalist is hopefully the basis for having something to say that may be of interest to others. I live in hope.
